  • Stephanie Podolski, MSPA, MPH, PA-C was a MEAPA Board of Directors Vice President for the 2015-2016 term. She is currently a Hospitalist Physician Assistant at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta. Stephanie holds dual training after completing her Master of Public Health degree in 2012 and then continuing on to complete her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies in May 2015 at UNE. Stephanie was inspired by our changing health care system and desired to utilize both her clinical and public health sides professionally. She has expressed the desire to continue her involvement with the MEAPA Board of Directors through service, education, and the interprofessional growth and development of our future healthcare professionals. She is an avid outdoorswoman who loves to hike, run, bike, and enjoy all of nature’s beauty.

  • Steven Blessington PA-C graduated from Northeastern University, Boston MA, in 1996. Prior to his Physician Assistant training he worked as a Paramedic in a busy inner city EMS system. Steven’s primary interest and focus has remained Emergency Medicine and he currently practices full time in the ED at Maine Medical Center, Portland Maine. He serves as a medical consultant to a national behavioral health company as well as a medical expert witness to law firms throughout the country. Additional areas of practice include hyperbaric wound care and occupational medicine. Steven Blessington has assisted as an adjunct faculty member to the UNE Physician Assistant program for many years. The 2015-2016 term as president represents Steve’s second time serving Maine’s Physician Assistants and MEAPA in this capacity.

  • Lon is a 2016 graduate of UNE's PA program and was an active UNE student representative on the MEAPA board during his program enrollment. A Bangor native, Lon is ecstatic to remain in Maine and work as a PA in emergency medicine at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, including CMMC's rural satellite ED and Urgent Care clinics. Prior to the PA profession, Lon dappled in numerous careers ranging from the Maine Forest Service and USPS to retail distribution via Planet Dog. His previous clinical experience includes working as a surgical and pulmonary inpatient CNA at Maine Medical Center, and as a float tech at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. Lon embraces the importance of MEAPA as a representative organization to the profession here in Maine, and looks forward to his continued membership and contribution.

  • Lisa is a 2015 graduate of the University of New England PA Program, where she was President of her class. Prior to becoming a PA, she worked as a laboratory analyst and ER technician in the greater Boston area. Growing up as a "military brat," Lisa has lived all over the world. She fell in love with Maine during her time in graduate school and decided to settle in Portland. She currently works in General Surgery at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford, and also has per diem positions in Emergency and Hospitalist Medicine. As MEAPA Secretary, Lisa wishes to be present and involved - focusing on service and education of our future PA's.

  • Shawn Graduated from the Northeastern University Physician Assistant program in 1993 and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and is a Delegate to the AAPA House of Delegates. He is past president of the Maine Association of Physician Assistants and currently serves on the Board of Directors and governmental affairs committee. Shawn started his PA career in the Emergency Department of MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Waterville, Maine and worked there for 15 years until 2008. He then became Owner/President/CEO of ExpressCare, an Urgent Care facility, from 2008 - 2012. He changed careers and has since been a Urology PA, first with Kennebec County Urology and currently with MaineGeneral Urology. He is the immediate past Vice-President of Urological Association of Physician Assistants. Shawn lives in China, Maine with his wife and four children, and is active in the community. He serves on his local Catholic parish council, coaches Little League Baseball and is a nationally certified pitching instructor through the National Pitching Association. He is an avid boater, kayaker, hiker and runner and a skipper for MITA (Maine Island Trail Association) a 375 mile trail along the Maine coast that includes over 200 islands.

  • Graduate of the Northeastern University PA Program, Family Medicine practice area and when working in DC, prior to moving to Maine, was also a member of DC Emergency Medical Reserve Corps. A PA educator since 1994 and active on local, state and national level with healthcare issues since graduation. Has served on various organization boards of directors: PAEA, ACU, NMAPA, DCAPA and MEAPA, as well as AAPA committees. Especially enjoys health policy and work with the underserved. Was the PA member of the 1996 class of U.S. Public Health Service Primary Care Policy Fellowship then later served as president of the fellowship alumni association, the Society of Primary Care Policy Fellows. Has also served as a NHSC Ambassador for years.

  • Heather Robertson, MHS, PA-C, has been practicing medicine since 2001 upon graduation from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. Most of her career has been in Family Practice, but she has also worked in ENT/HNS and Wound Care/Hyperbaric Medicine while in Alexandria, VA. She is now happily employed at a FQHC, the DFD Russell Medical Center in Leeds. For the past 2 years Heather has served on the MEAPA Board as a Director at Large and the Chair of the Membership Committee. With over 700 PAs practicing in Maine, she looks forward to the opportunity to support our profession and thereby improve the health of our patients.

  • Gretchen Preneta PA-C became a physician assistant in 2010 after 13 years as a public school teacher and part time EMT-I. She graduated with her Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from University of New England. She practiced in neurosurgery and oncology at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine before transitioning to her current hospitalist position in Bridgton, Maine. She is especially interested in palliative medicine and end-of-life care. Gretchen earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Ithaca College and her Master’s degree in Music Education from the University of Maryland. She has been an active volunteer in community leadership for her entire adult life, and is interested in combining her educational, medical and leadership background to be an advocate for PAs and their patients.

  • I am currently semi-retired at age 62, but still working 28 hrs. per week at Bucksport Regional Health Center (FQHC). I have over 20 years of medical practice experience as a diabetes specialist. I am the former Director of St. Joseph’s Diabetes Institute of Behavioral Medicine. I am a recipient of the Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Medal, State of Maine Physician Assistant of the Year in Rural Medicine in 2000, UMF Outstanding Alumni 2002, Who’s Who in Medicine Lifetime Award 2001, and I am a founding member of Endocrine Society of PA in America. My wife and I are authors of Diabetes Food & Soul Therapy (based on my 25,000+ office visits with of my diabetes patients). As a free iBook it has been downloaded in 51 countries by over 6,000 diabetes patients and medical providers. I have also worked in the fields of adult medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics and as a locum provider. I have the honor of being a former National Health Service Corp Scholar. My goals as your director at large will be: 1) help guide the PA profession as we move through a growth phase that marks a time of changes in state licensure; 2) certification and recertification; and 3) physician assistant medical care advocacy.
